[해석] 미해군 전함 콜이 예멘에서 폭격을 받기 몇 주전 CNN 자회사인 WABC-TV가 버지니아 노포크에 있는 콜 전함의 모항을 비롯하여 국내 해군 기지에 대한 보안상 결함의 가능성에 대한 조사를 시작했다.
짐 하퍼 기자와 동료 직원들은 임대한 모터보트를 이용하여, 항구에 정박한 해군의 최신의 선박과 잠수함들 일부에 접근할 수 있는 충격적인 방법을 보여주었다.
실제로 10월 12일 같은 날, 콜 구축함이 공격을 받았고, 하퍼 기자는 노포크에서 미해군 항공모함 엔터프라즈에 몰래 다가가 수하 없이 접근하였다.
해군은 금요일 국내외의 보안 절차에 대해 강도 높게 조사할 것이라고 발표했다.
(CNN) -- Weeks before the USS Cole was bombed in Yemen, CNN affiliate WABC-TV began an investigation into potential security lapses at domestic U.S. naval bases, including the Cole's home port in Norfolk, Virginia.
Reporter Jim Hoffer and his crew demonstrated how a rented motor boat was able to get shockingly close to some of the military's most sophisticated ships and submarines as they sat docked in port.
In fact, on October 12, the same day the Cole was attacked, Hoffer was in Norfolk where he glided past -- and touched, unchallenged -- an aircraft carrier, the USS Enterprise.
The Navy said Friday it is taking a "hard look" at its security procedures both at home and abroad.
